Emerald Park, Sask. (August 14, 2024) – SeedMaster, the developer and manufacturer of innovative no-till seeding technology, has announced the launch of The Ultra Wheat Yield Guarantee, a no-yield loss guarantee for western Canadian growers seeding wheat using the 2025 Ultra SR.

“The Ultra SR and its 15-inch row spacing is widely known to be highly effective for canola and pulse crops, but some have wondered whether the spacing can be a yield drag for wheat,” said Tim Criddle, Global Sales Director. “Here at SeedMaster, we are so confident in the Ultra SR’s ability to perform well in wheat that we have chosen to guarantee it.”

The Ultra SR is the first single-rank precision seeding tool on the market. The fully integrated seeding system combines SeedMaster’s most well-known technology—the dual knife-opener and UltraPro II metering. The Ultra SR also has a distinct feature: seeding with 15-inch row spacing compared to more traditional 10-inch or 12-inch row spacing on other toolbars.

Growers can participate in the guarantee program by taking a quarter section of land (160 acres), seeding half with the new Ultra SR drill, and seeding the other half with another drill of their choice. If the wheat yield per acre on the Ultra SR-seeded side is less than the other half at harvest time, SeedMaster will pay the grower for the yield shortfall difference.

The Ultra Wheat Yield Guarantee program strives to refute the long-held belief that the only way to grow cereals successfully is with narrow row spacing, which has been based on spacing data from the 1980s. SeedMaster has worked with growers who have seeded wheat with 15-inch row spacing using the Ultra SR, with no significant yield drag for more than five growing seasons.

Interested growers can visit their local SeedMaster to learn more. An Ultra Wheat Yield Guarantee Participation Agreement must be signed by the grower, the SeedMaster dealer, and an authorized SeedMaster representative prior to Feb. 28, 2025 to officially participate in the program.
